Today I have been mostly listening to...

Today I have been mostly listening to Ray Collins Hot Club. I first saw them when I went to last years Rhythm Riot and they were A M A Z I N G! The best act of the weekend for me! Its 50's inspired swing-rockabilly and they all dress up and look like they are having a great time when performing. Ray Collins kind of reminds me of Brian Setzer too....which can only be a good thing!

Charity shop quick stop!

This morning, before starting the days mega jewellery making marathon (Im making an order for a new UK retailer of mine!), I went with Michael to do a spot of Charity shopping somewhere that is close by where we live, but we never seem to go there even though there are about 6 charity shops and some house clearance shops! Madness!
Anyway, we had a drive out and a rummage and Michael got a top for 80p, and I got a fab gingham rockabilly top for 30p!
The house clearance shops were interesting - we spotted an excellent 50s style clock but it had a big crack down the front :( . There was also a vintage 50s style hairdryer - still in box!, but this also had a big crack in it, and you cant be too careful with electrics - so I put it back, Boo, it was cool too- here is pic of the exact one I found on the internet!

We then went in a salvage/antique/junk shop for furniture and saw some lovely retro teak 50s drawers that were only £20, but had just been sold! They had some cool 50's/60's sideboards and wardrobes too but nothing that really caught our eye. We have decided to become more regular visitors to these shops...I have a feeling good potential lies within!!

Whip it!

Had a great day trading at the Roller Derby in Leeds today. I made some new goodies especially for the event - embroidered skate patches and hair bows, and the patches all sold out in 20 mins! It was nice to meet some of my customers who had ordered personalised necklace from my website in the past, and were wearing them today :)

Here are a few pics from the day.... the skating ones are a bit rubbish as the strip lighting and size of the sports hall didnt do my photos much justice and lots didn't turn out!

New leopard and roller skate hair bows

NEW Skate embroidered patch sets - I did these in white, red, pink and green and they flew!
The Leeds Roller Dolls gearing up to start the bout

And they're off!

Dolly Cool does Roller Derby!

Well, IM not actually skating - although I used to LOVE roller discos when I was about 12!

This weekend I'm trading at the Leeds Roller Dolls v Birmingham Blitz Dames 'Viva Bash Vegas' bout! The gals at LRD asked me if Id like to go along and sell my wares to the roller girls - so how can I refuse? My best selling necklace is the Roller Girl necklace, which I offer a free personalisation service on with colours and name on banner, and Im sure I'll see a few of them on show this weekend. I'll let you know how I get on!

Too Fast Necklaces

As some of you already may know, I design some accessories and clothing graphics for US Wholesaler, Too Fast. I always get to do really fun designs for them, and they always photograph the stuff so well when it comes in.
I asked permission to share the photos, so here are some of the necklaces that I designed for them on super cool punk circus style models!

Pistols and heart necklace

Skull anchors and cupcake necklace

Dead swallows and heart necklace

My personal fave - Day of The Dead skull and rose necklace. I also have one of each of the above and will be wearing them lots this summer :)

A bit of me time and some retail therapy!

Today I decided to take some time out as I have been incredibly busy over the past few weeks and just needed a bit of 'me' time!
I went to my parents for lunch, falafels *yum*, followed by tea and chat - all very relaxing. On the way home i decided to pop into TK Maxx, just a little look...and i bought this....

A fabulous swallow and tattoo heart/dagger corset by Criminal Damage. The added bonus on this one is that it was designed by my good friend Kate! Its super cool and fits perfectly - can't wait to wear it! (oh, and of course, it was a bargain!)

When I got home I was having a look on Ebay and was thrilled to find this raffia heart bag with red trim, from Urban Outfitters. They were last summers stock, and Kate (see above!) has one, which I borrowed - and loved - when I went to visit her, and I have been on the look out for one ever since. It will be perfect for summer and Screamin' Fest!

Kustom Kulture Blast Off!

Ooooh Im really excited about this!

Myself and my buddy Kate have just signed up for a trade stand at Kustom Kulture Blast Off - a weekend event on 4th & 5th September this year at Springfields Event Centre, Spalding, UK.

We have got a top pitch in the main hall, where the panel jam is taking place. I will be of course selling all my Dolly Cool wares, and Kate will be selling her Tiki and Kustom inspired art.

Here is the blurb from the website on what its all about!......

From its roots in the youth culture of 50’s America, Kustom Art has been creeping into our everyday lives, so much so that it has its own unique lable... Kustom Kulture, and the scene is spreading it’s influence world-wide into the 21st century

It’s the eye catching designs on anything from big rig trucks to a skate deck. Fantastic paintwork on the custom bike, trike or scooter... flames down the side of that hot rod, muscle car or VW. Its classic American cars and Airstreams which are art forms in their own right.

It’s the skill of the artists who work in many forms, from pinstriping to airbrushing, and tattoos. The traditional sign writing and gilding skills (which due to Kustom Kulture are being resurrected). It’s the Pinup art from WW2. It’s the work of fine artists who create those iconic rock portraits, immortalise your ride in oils, customise guitars, decorate your skin and dress you up to get down.

It is vibrant colour and wacky design; it’s the timeless imagery of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis. Its flames, cherries and the fluffy dice in your windscreen! It’s the Von Dutch ‘flying’ eyeball and Ratfink

With special guest low brow artist from the U S A Joey Finz and the largest gathering of pinstripers from across the UK and Europe laying down lines on almost anything you care to bring.

So whether you are into turned-up jeans and juke boxes, leather jackets and rock ‘n roll music or interior design and d├ęcor, Tiki Culture, or want to buy anything from a paintbrush to burlesque clothing, learn a new skill or just wander around and be inspired by the hundreds of vehicles in the rolling art displays... Kustom Kulture Blastoff is the place to be!

Vintage bargain buys

Over the past few days I have been snagging some vintage bargains on Etsy. I do love Etsy! It just has a different vibe to Ebay, and sellers are just that bit nicer and you get more of a personal service. You also get some great bargains too! (Did I mention I love a bargain?!)

Im usually a repro girl to be honest - I love the retro look but in a modern way, and I find that lots of vintage clothes are not really 'me' - or dont fit right. I did find this fabulous dress on Etsy however in my size, a steal at $10. It has a sailor collar and a frill round the bum - AND its spotty - cool!

I also got a bakelite (the collection grows already!) Mah Jong tile bracelet - another steal at $8

and a kitschy vintage pineapple brooch - only $3. This is to go on my hawaiian shirt for Screamin Fest!

The only bummer is having to wait a week or two for them to arrive!!

Accounts bore!

When I became self employed, I vowed that I would NOT be one of those people who stuff receipts into a bag/drawer/floor of car all year and then spend a week of being up all night trying to fill in their tax returns in the last week of January.

I have, up until this year been very good - doing the previous months accounts in the first day or two of the next month. That slipped a bit in Feb and March (oops) and so today I made myself them! It took me miles longer than usual as I had begun to 'receipt stuff' and they were all out of order! Ugh!

All done now though and year end report done too, so new tax year, new start - and no panic!

Super Bargain Red Shoe Bonanza!

Today was day 3 at the Triangle shopping centre. It went ok, but was quieter today - probably due to the lovely unseasonal weather!
As my sister was helping out today, I got chance to pop out for a quick look into one of my fave Manchester shops - the Office sale shop! Its a little shop that is full of super discounted Office shoes. They usually only ever have things I like in a size 3 or 8 - but today I was in luck and managed to snag not one, but two pairs of delightful red shoes - for £7! Yes, thats £7 in total, not each! Woo hoo!! I do LOVE red shoes so much, and these are perfect for summer....
Red espadrille wedges with ankle straps - £2
Red glitter stack heel glitter 'Dorothy' shoes - £5.
Im wearing these tonight to a party im going to :)

Bakelite collection begins!

I have been looking into getting myself some Bakelite jewellery for a while now - and made my first purchase today from Etsy - some red dome shaped earrings from the 1930s - complete with original brass screw backs.

I have my eye on getting myself some of the spacer bangles next - i think in butterscotch and red, so they will match my outfits! Apparantly they have a nice weight feel and 'clunk' when you wear them together. They are not really expensive, but not cheap either - so it will be one at a time as I scour for some bargains....updates to follow! Here is a nice stack that I can aspire to....

First day at the Triangle!

Today was the first day of the 4 day show at the Triangle. I have a good pitch right by the main entrance, so im pleased about that - even if it is a little draughty!
A few people did think I was the tourist info though " Where is the Bra shop?" x2, "Where is the Toilet?" x 1 and "Where is the Lift?" x1!!
Aside from that, today was quiet but I had a few sales and the atmostphere is nice and chilled, so I just got on with some work at my stall. Heres a peak at my pitch!

And a close up of my card rack - which were selling well today :)

Cool new necklace!

Yesterday, I needed a break from making jewellery nonstop - so I went to Chorley to scout round the charity shops with Michael. We havent been for ages, and got quite a few bargains last time, so we were hopefull for some goodies.....hmmmm....we didnt find much!

I did find this fabulous vintage necklace though. Its really unusual...not sure when its from - Im guessing its 60's. After a good scrub yesterday, I have been wearing it today! An absolute steal at £1.50.

Another busy day!

To say that i have been working like a DAWG over Easter would be an understatement! I'm kind of getting used to 'plate spinning' as I like to call it - but I'm looking forward to the *hopeful* result of good sales at the Triangle Shopping Centre this week in reward for my grafting!
Today I made a start on an order for a shop I stock, made some items from my weekend website sales, and made some new items for the fair.

Sweetie filled resin shapes - reday for mounting onto pendant bails, ring blanks and brooch pins

Some more of the 3D felt tattoo style hearts, using cool leopard print felt!

Happy Easter and a busy making day!

Happy Easter! I had a relaxing day chilled out at home, whilst crafting on my knee (always multitasking you see!).
This is a pic of my mantlepiece with some cheery spring daffs - an Easter pressie off my sister.

Today I made some more things for the upcoming 4 day Triangle Shopping Centre Craft Fair, to be held in Manchester this coming Thursday (8th April) to Sunday (11th April).

I made some more cards - punky cake and spot themed - and some polka button earrings, which are made from some lovely buttons that I bought from the most amazing haberdashers I have ever been in. The shop is called Entree des fournisseurs and is in the Marais area of Paris. They have the most stunning array of buttons, trims and fabrics. If you get the chance, and you love haberdashers - then you must go! Here are todays creations.....Polka button earrings, using buttons from Paris - ooh la la!

My best selling Zombie cupcake on a card!
A super loud bright yellow and neon purple spotty yummy cupcake card :)

Good Friday Fun!

As today is Good Friday, the whole family got together and went for a walk. It was not the nicest of days weather wise, but we got our pac-a-macs on and went for a good 2 hour ramble over the hills. On the way back, we walked through a deserted park (drizzle puts most kids off!) and so we decided to have a stop off 'so my two toddler nieces could have a play' (yeah, right - we all had a go!) and had a really fun time before heading back to my parents house for a greek feast and hot cross buns. Here is me getting in touch with my inner child....

Dolly Cool is on the front page!

Woo! I was very pleased to see that my Mermaids and Anchor necklace is featured on the front page of Lunacy Boutique's website in an on-trend nautical line up!

Lunacy have been stocking my stuff for quite a while now, and have a great selection of cool clothes, accessories and gifts. Be sure to check them out :)

Here's my screenshot!
