I'm dreaming of a white Christmas!

I have been phenominally busy during December leaving little time to blog, tweet and facebook! Its great because I have had bumper sales off both my websites, and have done well at the craft fairs what I have been doing too - so thanks to all for supporting Dolly Cool and In The Pink!

Now that things are a little calmer, and last post day is out of the way - I had chance to go for a lovely snowy walk this morning with my partner, Michael. Here are a few pics I took along the way.....Merry Christmas!

Im lucky to live round the corner from a pretty little park. Here it is, in all its snowy glory!

Me in the park :)

Lovely thick snow, so pretty!

My back garden. I have avoided going out the back, so as not to spoil the snow!! :)

Rhythm Riot

Not blogged for ages - oops! I have been mega busy in the run up to Xmas with craft fairs, website sales and RHYTHM RIOT 50's weekend festival!

Myself and my good buddy Kate went down to Rye on the South East coast of England for some winter sun (!). We stayed at Pontins Camber Sands, which was taken over for the entire weekend by the 50s festival.

I had such a good time, there were amazing bands, cool retro fashion, a classic car show and we had a ride on a restored vintage bus into the quaint town of Rye. I even managed to fit in a sunday craft fair on the site - we had to rush to get our pitch at 7.30am - after being up dancing and drinking unbtil 3am the previous night - Rock n Roll! Here are a few pics from the weekend....

Fabulous restored vintage 50s bus

The Dolly Cool pitch at the VERY busy retro sunday morning sale. Not too much of a close up after only 4 hours sleep!

Kate, Francoise (our new French friend) and I on the Sunday night - Hawaiian themed evening!

The Ray Collins Hot Club - fantastic swing band from Germany. Bit like the Brian Setzer Orchestra - amazing!

Me next to my fave classic car - a pink caddy of course :D

FUSE Craft fair

Today was the first Christmas FUSE craft fair at the Bolton Market Place shopping centre. FUSE is the Bolton based craft group that I am part of. Its a real mixture of ages and craft skills and I always find the meet ups really inspiring and have met lots of really talented and interesting people through the group :)

Here are a few photos from the day! (I did rather well by the way, so a great day all round!)

Polka cake plate!

I have wanted one of these for years - but as I have a fairly compact kitchen, we really dont have room to fill it with lots of tabletop trinkets, so imagine my delight at finding this lovely two tier cake plate (polka too - extra points!), which is big enough to use as a fruit stand - hoorah! AND it was an absolute bargain at only £3.99 from UK homestore 'Home Bargains'. Yay :D

Massive Shop Order!

This week I have mostly been.....making jewellery like a mad thing for a shop that I supply in Wales. Its a great shop, and the fourth order I have done so far for them :D

Here is a photo of the finished products all laid out, before I packed them to send. I hand draw, cut, varnish and piece together every piece of jewellery myself, so I have sore hands at the moment and am now doing a spot of web design to give them a break!!

Vince Ray plays Manchester

Last night I went to see Vince Ray and the Boneshakers who are a psychobilly band, fronted by low-brow artist Vince Ray.Im a fan of his illustrations as well as his music and the gig was excellent. My only complaint is that I wish I was a bit taller to see over all the 6ft men with big quiffs! Here is a photo from last night of them in action, and some images of Vince Ray's illustrations.

NEW Dolly Cool Aprons

I screenprinted some cool gingham aprons last week, ready to sell at the CHEAP magazine craft fair that I did at the weekend. I of course had to keep one for myself, so this is me "testing it out" by making some stem ginger cookies..which are (were!) delicious! I also designed the hoodie I'm wearing too...cupcakes of course! :)

New Tattoo

This week, I got a new tattoo (or two!). Im not massively into tattoos with meanings, and just like them mostly for the artistic element, but my swallows are symbolic of my fresh start this year with my Dolly Cool brand, which I am currently working on expanding into more lines to include cardigans, bags and scarves....watch this space in the next few weeks! This is me proudly showing off my new swallows, taken an hour after they were done, in front of my Hello Kitty shower curtain!

Bill & Ben Update!

Last month, I blogged about my first ever attempt to grow some sunflowers, who I named Bill & Ben. Sadly Ben died not long after of a black fly infestation! However, Bill soldiered on, and this week has finally flowered! His flower is a bit on the tiny side, but im still very pleased as I thought I wasn't going to get one at all!! Here are some pics of Bill in all his glory!

Hooray! Bill is a bit weedy, but about 6ft 6" . Im really happy, as you can see :D
I dont just grow things, run and bake by the way. I do also do some rock n roll stuff too! Watch this space for some more rockin' blog posts in the next few weeks! Exciting new Dolly Cool project on the cusp....psychobilly gig coming up (The legendery Vince Ray).....and a spanking new tattoo on the way....

Sunny Summer Runs

As well as creating tattoo and cute jewellery and designing things like dismembered hand hairclips (!) I like nothing better on a sunday morning than going for a run nice n' early (im an early bird, not a night owl!). I took these photos with my camera phone while out on the run with my partner, Michael, at local Bolton beauty spot, Entwistle Reservoir.

The spiders webs were all beaded with fine dew drops and looked stunning in the early morning sun

The sun was shining brightly and created this nice effect on the camera. Michael is running ahead in the distance!

The morning sun shining through the trees. I'm really quite pleased with these photos seeing as I only snapped them with my camera phone. Its the first time I have used it as a proper camera, and I cant tell you how long it took me how to fathom out how to download them on the computer when I got home!! :-# !!

Sunday, 30 August 2009

This week I went to visit my sister and nieces in Bristol. I had a great time, and as part of the visit, we went to see the Banksy exhibition. Banksy is a British Bristol street artist who has now reached global levels of fame with his clever and witty poke at society. The only downside to his popularity was the queue to get in. 4 hours! Here are a few of my fave photos from the day :)

The queue! I have to say though that in true British spirit, no-one whinged, created a fuss or pushed in. Everyone stood patiently waiting their turn, clapped the buskers and passed newspapers and chairs to others when they were finished. The Europeans could learn a lot from our queueing etiquette!

My fave piece - loved the massive melty ice cream = yay!

Jesus and Mary with ipods!

Spotty! Hooray! This is a real Damien Hirst that Banksy has defaced/embellished!
Loved this one, funny

Tattoo Jam

This weekend I went to Tattoo Jam - a tattoo convention in Doncaster. Its the first one I have been too and I loved it. There were so many great tattoos to look at, people watching was great fun! There were some amazing artists at work on the day, including the brilliant Leah Moule from Spear Studio in Birmingham. I love Leah's style and it was great to have a look at her portfolio, which included a fantastic cake and ice cream sleeve. Here are some of her pieces, check out her website to see more of her stunning work. http://www.spearstudio.co.uk/home.html

I was also thrilled to have my cupcake photographed by Total Tattoo magazine who were covering the event for their next months feature, so I will be checking out the October issue to see if im in it!

The Burger Rubber

I was hunting in my large desk of rubbish for some staples today when this fell out and it made me smile. This is my burger rubber. I have had this rubber since I was 8. As a child, I was (and still am!) OBSESSED with stationary and when a girl in my primary school class, Sam, offered me to swop this much coveted rubber for one of my pens, I jumped at the chance.

The day after, she decided that she wanted it back, but of course, I was in love with it and NO WAY was she having it back. I hid it down my shirt, and took it home that night. For the next week, everyone in my class fell out with me because I wouldnt swop back the rubber! I cant remember exactly what happened but I lost touch with Sam when we left primary school, but the rubber is still mine today, 23 years later! Was it worth losing my friends for a week? Of course not. Can Sam have her rubber back now?Absolutely no chance!

Retro pattern hunt.....

This weekend I have been looking at print and pattern designs, gathering inspiration for a new project. I love retro homeware and textiles (have I mentioned my amazing kitchen table before?!) and found some brilliant designs on my internet search. One of my current fave illustrators is the Finnish designer, Sanna Annukka. Sanna designed the covers for the Keane Albums, but I actually prefer her folklore inspired repeat pattern designs.
Check out her work on her website:

New Cupcake Tattoo

This is my lovely new cupcake tattoo! Drawn by me and tattooed on by Beany at Inkspirations, Manchester. Its on my tummy and its about 10cm high. It took 4 and half hours in total, and took two sittings. Beany did a great job, and Im absolutely thrilled with it, yippee!

Bill and Ben

Meet Bill and Ben, my sunflower pot men! Kindly given to me as little seedlings by my friend Jo, they are now about 4 and 5 ft high - and rising! There is still no sign of a flower head on them yet, but I have faith ;-D

They seem to like this sunny spot in my garden, next to the outhouse. The outhouse used to be the outside toliet and coal storage for my house (built in 1908), and my dad converted into a little storage building for us. No-one else on my street still has thiers, so I think its rather special!

Floral updates hopefully to follow in the next few weeks....
